Sales Making Used Book more Affordable in Tough Economic Times reports Brotherhood Books

(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, November 13, 2012 ) Victoria, U.K -- The Friends of the Doylestown Library is making a concession that is allowing people to buy books at more affordable prices. The Doylestown library's annual fundraiser will host an annual book sale this weekend offering lower prices for nearly all of the thousands of books that will be for sale.

Due to the economy, many people are monitoring their purchases.

"Given the still depressed state of our economy, and the mission of the Friends of the Library to support the community and encourage reading, we have a new price policy so books can be more accessible to all," said Maria Martino Evans from Friends group.

With the exception of a few special antique or coffee-table books this year, all books will be $1, said Evans. In fact, childrens' books will be 2 for $1.

The goal of the sale is to raise about $12,000, slightly higher than the $11,000 raised during the 2011 sale.

Members of the Friends of the Library will be invited to a private pre-sale event fundraiser that starts on Friday night. Individual membership is currently $10 a year and supports the library’s mission to advance literacy.

The official sale runs Saturday, Oct. 27 through Saturday, Nov. 3. On Friday, Nov. 2 all remaining books will be half price. On Saturday, Nov. 3 any size donation to the volunteer group buys an entire bag full of books.

Sales proceeds help to expand the library's popular programs, including summer children’s programs which draw more than 100 people, respectively. The Friends' funding also enabled youth librarian Katie Ringenbach to organize an August ice cream social to thank two dozen teens who donated more than 500 volunteer hours to the library. Most of those volunteers have agreed to assist with the upcoming fall programming, according to the Friends group.

Community groups also help to make the sale possible - Boy Scouts from Troops 6 and 52, students from Central Bucks High School Key Clubs, volunteers, and donated tables from area churches.

Any remaining books at the end of the sale are donated to various charities, including schools in underprivileged areas, the USO, A Women's Place, nursing homes, Operation Santa, Purple Heart and Better World Books, which sends books to Africa.
