(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, May 16, 2019 ) This year’s Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA) was held at Regal L.A. LIVE, the state-of-the-art, world-class cinema in the heart of Los Angeles. It opened with a tribute to Tabu and a moderated discussion along with a screening of her Bollywood hit, “Andhadhun”. Tabu plays an actress caught disposing of her husband’s body in front of a pianist, who may or may not be blind in this black comedy.
“We have discussed honoring Tabu for a long time, and this year felt like the right time,” said Christina Marouda, IFFLA’s executive director. “Her work and personality embody everything that IFFLA is about — being fearless, versatile, independent in spirit, unwilling to compromise, brilliant in the range of her performances, and simply beautiful. With half of the festival’s 2019 line-up directed by female filmmakers, this couldn’t be a stronger celebration of women in Indian cinema.”
The 17th edition of IFFLA, that screened films in 9 languages, consisted of documentary features, shorts and many showings from mainstream Indian cinema. The annual four-day festival is a platform for the latest in cutting-edge global Indian cinema. It also attempts to bridge the gap between the two largest entertainment industries in the world, Hollywood, and the Indian film industry.
