(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, April 08, 2013 ) Clackamas, OR -- The old search engine optimisation (SEO) ‘formula’ is no longer working for Portland businesses, according to SEO and online marketing experts http://www.eteky.com/. As a result, the SEO experts are urging Portland businesses to stay on top of their SEO rankings with new link-building techniques.
“To rank a website in Google there used to be a pretty specific formula that would work the majority of the time, no matter the niche,” says the eteky.com spokesperson.
“Obviously, this was dependent on the Portland SEO of competitors too.”
According to eteky.com, the ‘old’ strategy had two key steps: the first step was to get lots of links. Businesses were not concerned whether the links came from the same types of sites. Step two was to get links containing the business’ keyword.
As a result, the formula would equate to 60 per cent of links being the main keyword, 15 per cent of links being the main keyword plus other words such as ‘read about’, ‘check out’ etc., and 15 per cent of links being generic text, such as ‘click here’ or ‘visit site. The remaining 10 per cent of the links would be the URL as text.
When Google's updates were rolled out, however, this formula was impacted and many businesses found it challenging to continue in the same way. Portland SEO company eteky.com says there is one very good reason that some Portland sites did not experience the impact of the Google updates or recovered from them exceptionally fast.
“And it has absolutely nothing to do with where we were getting the links from, but more so with how we were linking. We quickly realised that the old way of doing things needed to be changed,” said the eteky.com spokesperson.
For eteky.com, it all comes down to the link density and anchor text being used and, most importantly, the link diversity. They advise companies that the old way of ‘slamming’ their sites with lots of links from the same types of sites, plus only obtaining links with keyword rich anchor text, is over and will not work.
“The first reason we’ve been able to rebound from the Google changes comes down to the fact that we kept building links. Too many companies froze and stopped building links all together for fear that their sites would get hit even harder. This was simply the wrong thing to do,” said the spokesperson.
“At eteky.com, we knew that if a company’s link-building suddenly stopped, Google would be even more suspicious and would hit you even harder. They were looking for a reaction on your part. If you were building links in the past, you need to be building links now.”
As a result of their quick thinking, eteky.com is almost back to pre-Penguin traffic levels and rankings.
The second reason is that, in reaction to the Google changes, eteky.com started to use a new formula for anchor text links.
“Our formula for the amount of keyword anchor text we used was now defunct. We didn't change it right away, but we did slowly phase in a new formula.”
Because Google is now looking for a more diverse and natural linking profile, Eteky.com recommends using a formula comprising up to 15 per cent being the main keyword, 20 per cent being related LSI keywords, 35-50 per cent being the URL as the anchor text, and 25 per cent being generic keywords.
