iTunes Growth Slowing Thanks to Streaming

(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, May 05, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- A decade ago the Apple company revealed the sights beyond its iTunes Store virtual doors, and the music has changed ever since.

Suddenly the entire industry became terrified of general piracy, and its having a place in earning money from the sales of digital music through such devices. Listeners would not longer have to head to music stores in order to find the tune or tunes they wanted. Instead, an individual could pay for the specific songs and albums they wanted for a fraction of the price of what was the common payment of $18 an album. The iTunes and iPods connection became a must-have accessory for all walks of life that could afford it.

While record labels be grudgingly followed along with Apple CEO Steve Jobs, some musicians complained in suit that they did not earn enough royalties from the music that was sold on the digital medium.

By the turn of the decade, iTunes was the largest and easily most successful retailer on the plant, with over 435 million users spanning the globe, and over 25 billion songs downloaded. Nowadays, the iTunes product sells more than just music, with its collection of games, books, and podcasts. But the product is beginning to show its cracks in the hull, and growth seems to finally be on the downturn. Streaming sites such as Pandora, Spotify, and Rdio allow listeners to find music for free or for small monthly fees, which are being used by members to enjoy music without purchasing of each items.

One of the most notable changes thanks to streaming and iTunes music is the condensing of quality in music. For decades music was continually upgraded in sound, from the LP to the 8-track cassette and finally the compact disc. However, the current form of digital sound is actually lower quality than CDs were, and very few seem to notice or care. In fact, there is a strong movement toward the LP style of sound, which many believe lends an authenticity to the sound, despite it being lowered quality overall.
