Learn to play Johnny Cash's famous Right Hand Strumming Pattern

(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, September 23, 2013 ) St. Paul, MN -- The sound of the rolling train in Johnny Cash's songs is as iconic a sound as the rumbling thunder of a Harley Davidson. Now Nate Beck of The Manchester Social Club teaches guitarists how to replicate that classic train sound in a recently released video.

MAC Music Accessories, manufacturers of the SpeedPro Clip On Guitar Tuner, contracted with Beck to produce a series of how-to videos for guitar players. The Johnny Cash right hand strumming pattern is the first video in the series.

This guitar lesson was selected as the first in the series because "The pattern has transcended country music up through today," said Beck. "But even though Johnny Cash may be best remembered for his country hits his appeal spans well beyond country music. Cash had hits in gospel, blues, folk, rockabilly and rock and roll."

"Given the SpeedPro guitar tuner is genre-agnostic, we wanted to kick off the series of videos with a topic that would appeal to guitar players of all music genres. We believe Johnny Cash does that," said Stacey Marmolejo, MAC Music Accessories Company president. "When Nate suggested Cash's right hand strumming pattern, we all agreed that was exactly what we wanted as the first video."

In the guitar lesson video Beck explains each aspect of the sound. He demonstrates the strumming pattern of the right hand (for right handed guitar players; left hand for left handed guitar players); slowly at first and then gradually speeds it up to the familiar tune.

The strumming pattern is core to Johnny Cash's sound, but a guitarist also needs to know what to do with the left hand to complete the sound. The video uses close up shots as Beck describes what the left hand is doing while the right hand is strumming.

The free guitar lesson video, available on YouTube on the MAC Music Accessories channel, culminates in putting it all together to replicate the famous sound that is quintessential Cash.
