(EMAILWIRE.COM, January 15, 2009 ) MONTICELLO, Utah—Join Southwest Ed-Venture in 2009 on one of the 2008 National Geographic Traveler magazine’s 50 Tours of a Lifetime; Southwest Safari Camps. This is an exciting adventure exploring three unique areas in the Southwest that few have ever seen over seven days of hiking—in spring “The Other Mesa Verde”, in summer “The Other Canyonlands,” and in fall—The Other Chaco Canyon,” while being pampered in a deluxe safari-style camp in a special, remote location.
One special week in each camp location guests will learn about Archaeoastronomy, the study of of techniques developed by prehistoric cultures to determine and display such dates as summer or winter solstice and the spring or fall equinox. Excellent guides and archeologists will help you learn through hands-on education, exploration and discovery of places most people donÂ’t know exist. Guests will hike one to seven miles daily (all hikes are optional) to off-the-beaten-track ruins, canyons, and vistas.
Rustic but charming camp accommodations are simple, yet extremely comfortable, and the service is first class. Guests will sleep in large tents which are tall enough to stand in. Each tent has two double comfy high airbeds, linens, pillows, lanterns, chairs, and a bedside table. Showers will be available daily, as well as clean lavatories, a large dining tent, day packs, hiking poles, and other amenities. All guests need to bring is their curiosity!
In the evening, after a delicious meal prepared by a camp chef and served in the dining tent, guests will retire to the campfire to share stories and marvel at the billions of stars overhead. Fall asleep to the sounds of the night–frogs, crickets, or an owl hoot. Wrap up this ultimate safari in a Durango, Colorado hotel, and visit Native American trading posts.
