Stock Outboard Racing Well Represented at the UAW-GM Hydrofest

(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, August 22, 2015 ) Detroit, MI – The American Power Boat Association, the nation’s largest powerboat racing sanctioning body, has pioneered the development Driving Schools to make participation in boat racing possible for active Americans of virtually all ages.

Stock outboard driving schools are open to boys and girls, men and women; students have ranged in age from 9 years to 70+.

The J-class is worthy of special mention. Kids as young as 9 years old can attend driving school and experience the thrill of boat racing in a safe, properly supervised environment, to find out if they have what it takes.

J-class Hydroplanes are a little faster (the mph record is in the mid 40’s) than J- runabouts (record in the high 30’s), but to hear runabout drivers tell it, they are more difficult to drive than a hydroplane.

Big stock and modified outboard-powered hydros and runabouts can run over 100 mph.

Plenty of the drivers racing the big boats on the Detroit River this weekend were introduced to boat racing through Stock Outboard racing… Many, like unlimited driver J. Michael Kelly who won last week’s unlimited race in Seattle or Grand Prix racer Andrew Tate, who won the GP race in Tonawanda, NY a week ago, still race their outboards whenever they have the chance.

The Michigan Hydroplane Racing Association is one of the most active outboard racing clubs in America. They have conducted two driving schools in 2015 and will be racing in a couple of weeks (September 12-13) at Grass Lake, just west of Chelsea, MI, and a week later in Big Rapids, MI. in the western part of the state.

Get all the details about MHRA’s schools, the sport and this year’s schedule at their display right behind the Grandstand or at their website; www.michiganhydroplane.com

Background:

Interviews are typically pre-recorded, then inserted into the program throughout the weekend by the announcing a crew as the opportunity presents itself.
Brad Luce will most likely be the announcer doing the interviews.
Based in Seattle, Luce is familiar with boat racing and the APBA J-boat program.
He will not be familiar with the MHRA program (timing, locations, requirements, and costs) which is the news that he will want to share with the audience.

Max and Ben will be the catalysts that lead to that information being discovered/disclosed.

N.B.: The weekend’s schedule of races is full. As a result the announcers, who broadcast from the Judges Stand (inaccessible from the Grandstand or Pit areas), will find it difficult to conduct interviews Saturday and Sunday.
Friday afternoon would be best, Saturday or Sunday morning (early) would be the second choice for them.

Typically they conduct interviews at the base of the Pit Tower, where there is the opportunity to control the environment. The display area would be their second choice --- before the area is crowded with spectators.
