(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, August 22, 2015 ) Detroit, MI – Twins Max and Ben Brabb attended Michigan Hydroplane Racing Association’s Driving School at Grass Lake last summer, and got their first taste of competition last fall at an MHRA event in Big Rapids, Mich. That was all it took. For 2015, the Brabb boys have gone “all in” in this, their first full year in racing. 10 years old, Max and Ben live with their parents Heidi and Bob Brabb in Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich. and will be students at Brownell Middle School this fall.
Max Brabb serves as a remarkable example of the inclusiveness of APBA stock outboard racing. Born with a congenital heart condition, Max has endured over 40 surgical procedures in his short life, including 3 open-heart surgeries.
Precluded from traditional stick and ball competitions, Max’s positive experience at racing school led him and his family to the conclusion that this was sport for him.
Because Ben drives a J-Runabout while Max competes in the J-Hydroplane class they don’t race against each other…which doesn’t mean they don’t compete with each other.
In their first year of racing they have already brought home the hardware. Ben has captured a first and a third and Max has scored a second place finish…so far.
There are at least three more races on their calendar this year… Dayton, Ohio next week, then a week off before two in a row; Grass Lake, Mich. followed by Big Rapids on the west side of the state. Interviews are typically pre-recorded, then inserted into the program throughout the weekend by the announcing a crew as the opportunity presents itself.
Brad Luce will most likely be the announcer doing the interviews. Based in Seattle, Luce is familiar with boat racing and the APBA J-boat program.
He will not be familiar with the MHRA program (timing, locations, requirements, and costs) which is the news that he will want to share with the audience.
Max and Ben will be the catalysts that lead to that information being discovered/disclosed.
N.B.: The weekend’s schedule of races is full. As a result the announcers, who broadcast from the Judges Stand (inaccessible from the Grandstand or Pit areas), will find it difficult to conduct interviews Saturday and Sunday. Friday afternoon would be best, Saturday or Sunday morning (early) would be the second choice for them.
Typically they conduct interviews at the base of the Pit Tower, where there is the opportunity to control the environment. The display area would be their second choice --- before the area is crowded with spectators.
