The Bentwood’s environmental policy is based on three all encompassing objectives: increased efficiency, reduced toxicity, and using organic food that is harvested and grown in the region.
The Bentwood Inn strives to create inspirational experiences for guests including opportunities to educate guests about the unique natural history of the valley and the inn’s efforts to operate in a sustainable manner. The Bentwood Inn is a proud member of 1% For The Tetons, an initiative that sees local businesses commit 1% of their annual revenue to local nonprofits for projects that contribute to sustaining Jackson Hole. The Bentwood Inn advocates Leave-No-Trace (LNT) minimum impact practices and has dedicated a part of its guest resource library to information about LNT.
Other “green initiatives” underway at the Bentwood include:
• Ensuring minimal impact on the environment by maintaining all of their systems – heating, electrical, water, solid waste -- so that they run with the highest levels of efficiency possible.
• Composting of yard waste and non-recyclable cardboard initiated on-site.
• All operations are powered by 100% renewable energy purchased from Lower Valley Energy.
• Natural product amenities in all guest rooms (soaps, shampoos, salt scrub) in compostable bottles.
• PBA-free, Bentwood branded water bottles are given as an amenity to guests, eliminating plastic water bottle use.
• Purchasing as much local, organic and fair trade food as possible.
• Carbon emissions calculated as a first step toward reducing and eventually offsetting CO2 emissions.
• Use of 100% biodegradable and 100% compostable garbage bags, reusable grocery and produce sacks.
• Providing resources for guests so that they are ready for each encounter with plants and animals; teaching visitors environmentally sound ways of enjoying the wilderness.
• CFL lighting installed in all public areas of the property.
• Ensuring the staff understands and participates in all aspects of company policy to prevent adverse impact on the environment.
• Active participation with all recycling programs available in the county.
• Compliance with all applicable local and state environmental regulations and policies.
