AdventureWomen, Inc. Offers a WomenÂ’s Only Vietnam Cultural and Humanitarian Adventure in 2010

(EMAILWIRE.COM, March 31, 2009 ) Bozeman, MT— AdventureWomen, Inc., the oldest worldwide adventure travel company for active women over 30, is offering a new cultural and humanitarian adventure that takes women travelers to Vietnam with the option of an extended trip to Cambodia. From the tribal villages of Sapa in the North, to modern Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) in the South of Vietnam, this active adventure to a previously tumultuous landscape will give visitors the opportunity to see a beautiful country at peace while lending a helping hand.

The Vietnam War influenced AdventureWomen owner Susan Susan Eckert to enter the Peace Corps and to subsequently start her own adventure travel business. “I wanted to share my experiences and educate travelers about other cultures,” said Eckert. “I believe strongly that travel is one of the greatest tools that we have for creating world peace; it breaks down barriers and fosters understanding like nothing else can. That’s why it feels important that after 27 years in the adventure travel business, I have designed trips like this one that include not only the cultural aspect, but the humanitarian aspect as well.”

Throughout this journey, visitors will call on many NGOs (non-government organizations) to meet and talk with people who are working to ease the hardships of the Vietnamese people in rural areas of the country. As a group, guests will participate in humanitarian acts like donating a water buffalo to a local farming family, so they will be better able to increase the yields in their rice fields, and donating a sampan to a young couple in the Mekong Delta, so they can get their produce to market.

Other highlights include a cyclo-tour that takes visitors through the French colonial architecture of Hanoi; taking the overnight train to Sapa to hike and interact with various ethnic peoples and learn about their distinctive crafts; visiting emerald-colored, terraced rice fields in the serene countryside; boating the Perfume River in Hue and the Mekong Delta; taking a walking tour of the narrow cobblestone streets of Hoi An; and visiting the Cu Chi Tunnels to learn about the “American War” (as the Vietnamese refer to it).
Cultural highlights include meeting a water puppet master in the rice paddy fields where water puppetry originated; a cocktail party and interaction with local Vietnamese artists; shopping in a local Saigon market and a cooking class with a well-known Vietnamese chef; dinner and conversation with a well-known Hue historian; visits to pottery and carpentry villages; a visit to northern villages where minority peoples still live in stilt houses and weave textiles on ancient looms; and more.

At the conclusion of this trip, guests will have an opportunity to continue their adventure with a 4-day/3-night optional extension to the amazing Buddhist temple complex of Angkor Wat in Cambodia, and the surrounding countryside.

This adventure is a chance to journey into the soul of Vietnam, to absorb the Vietnamese culture, cuisine, the art of its craftspeople, and the history, religion and nature of the country. Local guides will accompany guests throughout, the hotels are luxurious and well-located, and guests will eat wonderful Vietnamese culinary delights in the best restaurants. On this adventure, travelers have a wonderful opportunity to play a very important role in conveying the value of international friendship and the spirit of kinship that comes from person-to-person interaction.

Dates for 2010: October 11 – 24, 2010 (Vietnam), October 24 – 27, 2010 (Cambodia Extension). For more information, contact Susan Eckert at 406-587-3883 or visit the website.
