H3C helps Phoenix TV launch a new era in cross-border digital broadcasting

(EMAILWIRE.COM, September 25, 2009 ) Hong Kong, 25 September 2009 – H3C, a leading global IP networking solution provider, has announced that Phoenix TV has selected the company to upgrade its production and office networks at its new head office in Tai Po. H3C designed two network architectures for Phoenix TV – one for channel production and one for office operations – to provide a reliable platform supporting Phoenix’s video editing and production work along with multiple back office applications.

The production network will feature H3CÂ’s high performance switches, offering Phoenix TV 10G wire-speed capacity to meet the high bandwidth and reliability demands of digital video production. To meet the different requirements of Phoenix TVÂ’s office network, H3CÂ’s stackable power-over-Ethernet (PoE) switch will be installed to improve the availability and delivery of its back-office applications and networked services like IP telephony.

"As a partner, H3C really understood our requirements and provided a detailed product demonstration prior to installation that was tailored to match our needs. H3CÂ’s professional service and its advanced total network solutions are empowering our migration to full digital production. Our network systems, for production and back office, will have better response times and operate with higher efficiency," said Phyvid Lee, MIS Manager, Phoenix Satellite Television Co Ltd.

"H3CÂ’s 10G solutions are ideally suited to handle the bandwidth requirements of digital TV production. By leveraging the performance capacity and reliability of H3CÂ’s switches, Phoenix TVÂ’s new production network will be capable of delivering a fully digital media and entertainment environment to its customers without interruptions of system downtime," said Johnny Lam, Senior Sales Manager, H3C.

Digital Video Production Requires High Bandwidth and Reliability
In the Phoenix TV production network, H3CÂ’s powerful 10G backbone architecture support servers used by PhoenixÂ’s production teams. Redundant H3C S9508 10G routing chassis-based switches are being deployed in the production networkÂ’s core, offering Phoenix TV sub-second failover and no single-points of failure, which enables Phoenix TV to guarantee its commitment of 24x7 broadcasting service. H3CÂ’s solution adds its stackable S5600 gigabit-Ethernet switch in the access layer to support distributed Layer 3 routing and wire-speed switching capability. This delivers gigabit-to-desktop capacity for bandwidth-intensive networked services like video editing, digital video transmissions and channel and news broadcasting. The S5600 series switch features a distributed routing architecture and dynamic link aggregation technology to provide resilient connectivity between access switch and application server.

Secure Reliable Network Platform for VoIP and Office Automation
Phoenix TVÂ’s office network requires stable performance, multi-service capabilities and high availability for more than 500 voice-over-IP (VoIP) phones, office automation, email, data networking transmissions, video conferencing, and various other networked services. H3C is deploying two chassis-based S7500 switches series in the office networkÂ’s core and an S3600 series switch in the access layer of the office network to meet these application needs. The two S7500 series core switches offer Phoenix TV high availability and performance supporting a gigabit Ethernet backbone. The H3C S3600 series is a stackable PoE switch that will work with PhoenixÂ’s IP telephony system and its sophisticated VLAN and QoS features in order to deliver high flexibility and guaranteed voice quality.

"Using H3CÂ’s network solutions, Phoenix can improve the reliability, performance, and availability of its production and office networks. Phoenix TVÂ’s new networks are also very secure, owing to the numerous security features H3C packs into its products, including authorization on OSPF peering, 802.1x support, port security, ACL, Controller CPU protection and ARP detection," explained H3CÂ’s Johnny Lam.
