Social Entrepreneur Launches Innovative Health Campaign throughout Monmouth County

(EMAILWIRE.COM, December 08, 2011 ) Detroit, MI -- Local schools and community centers in Monmouth County, New Jersey will soon be setting a precedent by featuring high-tech and eco-friendly vending machines that only vend healthful foods on their premises. These innovative healthy vending machines are part of local social entrepreneur Melissa EpsteinÂ’s partnership with HUMAN Healthy Vending to ensure that residents in her community have convenient access to foods and drinks that meet a high caliber of nutrition standards, including the standards delineated by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation. Already, Brick Fitness for Women, Brick Township High Schools, Hillel Yeshiva School, Knollwood School, Ranney School, and Wall Township High School have signed with Epstein to provide their students and patrons with this healthful alternative. Machines will be operational at these locations in mid January.

Unlike antiquated vending machines that have long been complicit in encouraging unhealthful eating habits, HUMANÂ’s vending machines are the first full-service vending solution offering healthful snacks, drinks and entire meals along with health education streamed digitally via HD LCD screens attached to the machines. The LCD screens can educate consumers on the products in the machine as well as give general nutrition advice, such as how to read a nutrition label.

As an ex-athlete and mother to three young children, Epstein feels that people should do more than talk about the perils of malnourishment and childhood obesity and do something to help the situation. Her partnership with HUMAN Healthy Vending is her way of teaching her children to walk the walk. “The biggest mistake we can make is to think we don’t have power and that we can’t affect positive social change. I feel passionate about partnering with HUMAN and am 100% on board with their mission to ‘make nutrition easy,’” said Epstein.

Locations that partner with Epstein will join a successful network of more than 750 locations across the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico that currently feature HUMAN vending machines.

While HUMAN and its operators work tirelessly to bring healthful food to locations across the world, they realize that proper nutrition is just part of the solution to the complex problem that is the obesity epidemic. So, HUMAN operators can often be found hosting sampling events in conjunction with mission-aligned organizations that inspire and teach physical activity. These events and partnerships create a well-rounded and synergistic approach to health-related outreach.

Epstein will hold nutrition-education and sampling events in January. Those interested in attending, or in seeing a HUMAN Healthy Vending machine in operation, may contact Annabel at the contact information listed above.
