(EMAILWIRE.COM, April 19, 2012 ) London, UK -- The fab four to come out tops, the only nominees voted by the theatre-going public for the Olivier Awards with MasterCard, were announced on the Elaine Paige On Sunday show on March 11.
Thousands of fans voted for the phenomenally popular Billy Elliot The Musical, Jersey Boys, Les Misèrables and Wicked in the Olivier Award nominations .
The listeners now have the almost impossible task of voting for just one of these fantastic shows to win by 5pm on April 11. The winning production will then go forward to join the rest of the nominees at the glittering ceremony on Sunday April 15 at the Royal Opera House, hosted by Sweeney Todd stars Michael Ball and Imelda Staunton.
Billy Elliot the Musical has been playing at the Victoria Palace Theatre since 2005, and Jersey Boys, originally a hit in the States, tells the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons and features many of their catchy hits.
The legendary Les Misèrables is London theatre’s longest-running musical, having been staged since 1985, while Wicked, winner of the Audience Award in 2010, has been playing at the Apollo Victoria since 2006.
This year’s Olivier Award nominations celebration, organised by the Society of London Theatre (SOLT), promises to be the most spectacular event ever staged since the awards began in 1976.
A who’s who list of theatrical royalty - actors, agents, producers and an invited audience of VIP guests - will be present at the glitzy ceremony on April 15.
And the theatre-loving public can also experience the excitement at a free event taking place at London’s Covent Garden where they can watch a live stream of the fabulous event on the big screen.
The celebrations will even continue on the other side of the Atlantic, where actors and theatre fans in New York will party the night away to celebrate the illustrious occasion.
Anyone who can’t make it to Covent Garden on April 15 can also enjoy the action via Radio 2, on the BBC red button and online.
The stage is set for this year’s Olivier Award nominations ceremony - it’s a night when the stars will shine in the world capital of theatre for a truly memorable event.
