(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, August 20, 2012 ) New York, NY -- Numerous product review and news site have been issuing unethical toy reviews and top toy lists according to a new report by DadDoes.Com . Dad Does cites the fact that toy reviews are being published before the author has ever laid hands on the toy as proof that the toy reviews are not honest and accurate.

DadDoes.Com is a well know product review site that focuses on providing real world reviews geared toward parents. While DadDoes.Com reviews a wide range of products, they specialize in toy reviews. For every toy that Dad Does reviews, they get the toy, have parents and children play with the toys and then honestly report back on how families enjoyed the toy.

This process of first receiving a toy and then testing it out in a real world setting is no longer standard practice according to the DadDoes.Com report. They report that numerous sites and bloggers write their toy reviews and their list of the top toys for 2012 based on a press release or a demo video they have watched online. The author often does not ever lay hands on the toy before writing the review, and Dad Does believes this review process is unethical.

“Honest toys reviews are on life support in 2012. We really don’t see how you can honestly call something a toy review, when you have never touched the toy. Perhaps it could be called a toy preview, but when you label an article a toy review, there is an expectation that the author has actually reviewed the toy and not just read a press release” states Dan Nessel of DadDoes.Com .

Dad Does reports that the reason that more and more sites do reviews and top toy lists based on press releases is simple economics. Sites need to increase their page views so they can display more ads. If they pay an author to spend days testing out one toy, they only end up with one article to display ads on. On the other hand, if that author instead spends one day writing ten toy reviews based on ten press releases, they have ten times more pages to display ads on.

To help consumers understand the difference between a toy review based on actually using the toy versus a toy review based on a press release, Nessel is asking the industry to be clear in their labels. If the author has never used the toy, Nessel wants to see a disclaimer added to the article that reads, “This review is based on information from a company press release. The author has not had actually used or played with the toy.”

Nessel states, “I have no problem with sites writing articles and lists based on press releases, I just want the readers to be clear on the difference between a review of a toy and a review of a press release.”

It has been a busy week for DadDoes.Com, in addition to turning the spotlight on the toy review industry, they have also put the spotlight on the nutrition and health industry. In a report released this week, Dad Does reviews the health benefits of Rhodiola Rosea supplements.

Rhodiola Rosea is an adaptogen herb that is supposed to help reduce stress and anxiety while increasing energy, endurance and stamina. While Rhodiola Rosea has been popular with athletes for years, more and more parents are now starting to turn to Rhodiola supplements.

Nessel concludes, “We don’t really see a big difference between reviewing toys one day and Rhodiola rosea the next. In the end, our goal is to find products that make a Mom or Dad’s life a little better, easier or more fun in some way. That product might be a toy or a health supplement, but in either case we follow the same procedure, provide honest information to help our readers make informed buying decisions.”
