Tibrewal added, “Some experts are predicting smartphones and tablets will account for around one-third of all website visits this coming holiday shopping season.” So just how many smaller business will be left wishing they had the capability? “According to our current data, nearly all small and medium-businesses will be challenged to capitalize on this mobile commerce opportunity due to their incompatible websites,“ reported Tibrewal.
The study also showed that privacy is also an issue for small and medium sized businesses’ websites. “76% of small and medium-sized businesses have no privacy policies,” which would help to decrease the likelihood that they would be indexed by a search engine. Other information was discovered about small and medium-sized business websites: “44% of the companies homepages don’t list a phone number, and 78% don’t link to the company’s Facebook page,” which could impact business. Heading into the holiday shopping season it is estimated by ShopperTrak that sales should rise about 3.3% this year which has not been seen since 2007. With many small and medium-sized businesses having issues including not being prepared to connect to potential customers shopping on smartphones and tablets, capitalization on this trend will be missed, thus not allowing these businesses to take advantage of sales through the holiday season.
