(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, October 07, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA- According the Ilitch family, the new Detroit Red Wings stadium is set to be built. The catch is that it will not be built in the preferred location, and there are no talks with the pistons in joining the two facilities together.
Ilitch Holdings Inc President Chris Ilitch stated as much on Tuesday during the Teams’ 12 Conference Expo ice-breaker panel launch.
Near 1,500 individuals from several states have signed to participate in the sports-event organizer expo, according to Marty Dobek, marketing and communications specialist for the Detroit Sports Commission. The even began money with a golf tournament, and will run through Thursday at Cobo Center. Included functions are various speakers on a range of topics, a networking event, and other general activities.
Commissions from several states and sports industries, as well as suppliers and organizers were those in attendance.
Ilitch, who parents bought the Wings thirty years ago, has been planning a new arena for half a decade. He was on a panel with Detroit Metro Convention and Visitors Bureau’s Larry Alexander, as well as George Zimmerman of Pure Michigan. The panel was moderated by Timothy Schneider, who is publisher of SportsTravel Magazine.
Questions from 200 participants were fielded by the panel. Ilitch revisited and expounded upon the family’s goals for the new arena, replacing the city-owned JLA with a new privately owned facility.
The concept for the new arena also leave open the possibility of a plethora of other events and sporting opportunities to manifest throughout the years. Detroit has hosted a Super Bowl, World Series, Stanley Cup Finals, NBA Finals, and NCAA basketball and hockey finals in the past decade.
