Take2Authentics will have sports and entertainment memorabilia experts on hand who can give an accurate appraisal of what various items are worth. The event will be held this Saturday and Sunday, January 12 and 13, from 10 am until 4 pm and these experts will not only provide a value but in many cases will offer to buy the item for cash.
Take 2 Authentics owner Bob Manning says opportunities like this don’t come around very often. “Usually people don’t know where to go to find these kind of answers,” said Manning. “It’ll be kind of like that Antiques Roadshow program you see on TV. The only difference is that we may offer to actually buy what they have.”
And while Manning doesn’t expect to unearth another Honus Wagner baseball card, he says they could find gems like an autographed photo of Frank Sinatra or Bill Russell rookie card. “If someone wants to sell his items, we’ll make an offer,” Manning says. “We specialize in sports and entertainment memorabilia of all kinds.”
Take 2 Authentics' “roadshow” isn’t limited to sports cards. Manning says his store will evaluate – and perhaps offer to buy – select items from Tiger Stadium and Olympia, signed photos, jerseys, balls or pucks, game-used jerseys and equipment and even Star Wars toys (pre-1985).
“The value of some of these pieces is surprising,” according to Manning. “Yesterday’s toy figures are today’s collectibles.” A certain 30-year old Han Solo action figure brought $800 on the open market, according to one web site. The same source valued a 1977 R2-D2 walking windup figure at $2,500.
