(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, January 16, 2013 ) London, U.K -- Luxury car sales within the UK have seen a 5.3% increase in the 2012 fiscal year, and the sector has seen its best result since the recession that hit in 2008, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). The number of luxury car manufacturers have been quick to point to the boost in sales and hopes it is signs that the future is bright, pending a proper full turnaround.
Mercedes-Benz reported a record-breaking 4.5% share, which was posted in 2012 with its released S-Class heading to No. 1 amongst luxury cars within the United Kingdom. The class nabbed a 30.5$ share of the segment of the market according to the manufacturer.
Jaguar's XJ luxury saloon performed well in the 2012 year, making it the second-most popular luxury car in its class.
Jaguar's market share was nearly 21%, and the company claims the number two spot in its segment. That mark well outperformed the BMW 7-Series, as well as the Audi A8, according to Jaguar.
SMMT Chief Executive Paul Everitt stated: “Boosted by strong consumer demand, the market grew at its fastest rate for 11 years with innovative, fuel-efficient cars keeping buyers in showrooms. Looking ahead to 2013, we anticipate the market will hold firm, with manufacturers and dealers working hard to deliver quality and value to motorists.”
Bentley, the flagship Mulsanne sustained growth of 10%. Four of every 10 Mulsanne's built within Crewe were sold in China, and the popularity of the limousine was bolstered by the Diamond Jubilee edition. Meanwhile, the Flying Spur continued to sell well, particularly within China. The Flying Spur is the largest four-door luxury car on the market to date.
Rolls-Royce revealed that record sales were had in 2012, with 3,575 cars sold globally this over the fiscal year. That total represents third year in which the best sales result was attained by the 108-year old company.
