Once Upon A Tree House Releases Infographic on Impact of Toy Industry

(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, February 06, 2013 ) Allentown, PA -- Toys are a part of everyone's lives. Individuals who did not enjoy the company of a favorite toy during their impressionable years are few and far between. While many tend to remove childhood toys from our lives, there are still a great many who keep one or two by their sides; and more importantly, no one would ever go back in time and exchange our beloved toys. The toy industry is still as active as ever, and OnceUponATreeHouse.com has created an infographic explaining the scope and importance of the industry for both children and adults alike.

The toy industry created 384 million toys in 2011, according to the infographic. Building sets are the largest portion of the toy industry, and comprise 20% of the toys created. Action figures and accessories are tied with outdoor and sports toys with 12% of total toy production each. Plush and dolls are next on the list at 10% and 8% respectively, with vehicles, games, infant toys, and all others making up the remainder of the list.

The toy industry has an estimated worth of $21.5 billion, and increased by 2% in 2011. The United States was the number one consumer of toys. While it holds 4% of the world's children, it purchased 40% of the world's toy population.

OnceUponATreeHouse's infographic points out that while toys are primarily made for children, many adults enjoy the use of a cuddly friend as well. According to the infographic, over 6,000 British women admit to sleeping with a stuffed animal, while 10% of men state they hide their stuffed animal when their girlfriend stays over. Also noted in the infographic, 14% of married men hide teddy bears or other plush toys when guests arrive. The average age of a teddy bear in Britain is a whopping 27 years old.

Toys are also cherished by celebrities. Snoop Dogg admits to having a Lite Brite, while Martha Stewarts admits to her collection of He-Man Action Figures. Director Quentin Tarantino say he loves his TV Land Board Games, while George Takei has notes he has a My Little Pony.
