Local Plants vs. Zombees Play is a big success

(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, April 14, 2013 ) Ucon, ID -- In a new child-friendly twist to the zombie trend that has stayed persistent for the last half-decade, “Plants vs. Zombees” is a new play at the Linkville Playhouse, wherein the “zombees” are cleverly named insects.

The show is all part of the “Little Linkville” series for children, and Heather Sha, who is the show's director and writer, explained that the plot is based, quite obviously, off of the popular “Plants vs. Zombies” game. Sha stated that she changed the zombies to undead insects to make them a bit less scary for the children.

“We started with the title and went from there,” Sha said. “The zombees are funny and silly.”

The 20-minute play includes varying actors of all ages, including an adorable 2-year-old zombee. She stated that she wanted to write the play to incorporate as many children in the cast as possible.

“It’s a really awesome group of people and it’s a big group,” Sha said. And the “Little Linkville” plays, which are now working through their second season, are offering children and families and fun and creative way to be involved in the arts, Sha said. “We try to do a variety of shows each season,”

“A lot of times, kids will say, I’ve never been to a play before, but I’ve been to a movie,” Sha said. The plays are a great way to encourage children to be creative and to play pretend, she added.

“Plants vs. Zombees” tells the story of a tiny plant and a young zombee forming a friendship against all odds, and features fun dance numbers to songs like Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” and audience participation

Audience participation is not only enjoyed, but plays an important role in the children's shows, she stated. It is more fun for younger children to feel they are a part of the action, in order to bridge the gap between spectating and engaging, the latter of which holds one's attention longer. In “Plants vs. Zombees” playgoers are given an opportunity to jump around and encourage the plants to protect against the zombees.
