(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, July 27, 2013 ) Roanoke, VA -- Many of Chinese teenagers aboard the downed Asiana Flight 214 were participated tours designed to introduce them to some of USA’s best-known universities. The tour was part of a fast-growing industry in which China is aiming to attract affluent parents to send their children to prestigious schools such Yale, Harvard and Stanford.
But for middle class residents who may not be sending their kids to such high-end schools, they might be sending their children to summer camps across America. For more than 30 years, the The University of California-Riverside has been offering a summer high school camp for international students to help increase the number of interests and enrollments over the last few years.
Other colleges and school districts help students build ties between institutions and prestigious companies, but also introduces students to regular life in America so they get an idea what it’s like to live a life as a regular kid in the US.
This week alone, over 30 students will be leaving from China to arrive in Janesville, Wisconsin to visit enrichment programs that are offered through the city’s public school district. During their stay, they will be treated by six high school students and host families and get to learn the culture about here in America.
