Holiday Point Releases Infograph on the WorldÂ’s Fastest Roller Coasters

(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, August 22, 2013 ) VIC, Australia -- If you have an insatiable need for speed, Holiday Point’s new infograph on the fast and fiercest roller coasters around the globe will really pique your interests.

At Ferrari World Park in the United arab Emirates, the Formula Rossa is the fastest roller coaster in the world. Using a hydraulic winch system, similar to those used to launch jet planes, the F1-inspired coaster is shot out of the launch using 20,800 horsepower and propelled to a height of 52 meters in less than five seconds. The roller coaster also generates a release velocity close to that of an aircraft carrier’s steam catapults.

In Six Flags, New Jersey the Kingda Ka is the second fastest roller coaster in the world, but it is also the tallest roller coaster in the world and is only the second “strata” coaster ever built. This coaster catapults riders 45 stories into the sky, launching enthusiasts into the air at 206 km/hr in under a heart-stopping 3.5 seconds. Just like the Formula Rossa, the Kingda Ka puts out a whopping 20,800 horsepower from its hydraulic launch motor.

In 2003, the Top Thrill Dragster debuted as the predecessor of the following four records for roller coasters: the world’s tallest complete circuit roller coaster, the world’s tallest roller coaster, the world’s tallest roller coaster drop, and the world’s fastest roller coaster.

Though succeeded only two years later by the Kingda Ka, Top Thrill Dragster’s 10,0000 horsepower engine, 42 story ascent and 270 degree twist makes this stratospheric stramer the heart pounding predecessor of all the rapid velocity coasters.

The Dodonpa in Fuji-Q Highland Amusement Park in Fujiyoshida, Japan is an accelerating tour-de-force distinguished by Time Magazine as one of the Top 10 Most Extreme rides in the entire world. Released in 2001, Dodonpa reigned as the fastest roller coaster in the world, and remains the second roller coaster to utilize air compression for its launch.

With its overwhelming acceleration, Japan’s Dodonpa coaster reachers 172 km per hours in just 1.8 seconds after launch. To this day, it remains the fastest launch acceleration in the world.

Superman: Escape from Krypton may be the last on Holiday Point’s infograph, but it definitely not the least. Located in Six Flags Magic Mountain in California, the classic roller coaster once held the world record as the fastest and tallest roller coaster in the world when built in 1997.

As of 2013, the Superman (once known as the Superman:The Escape) is considered the third tallest structure with the fifth fastest speed and the third longest drop of all coasters worldwide. Unlike traditional roller coaster, Superman: Escape from Krypton blasts riders at sppeds og 160.9 km an hour backwards on a dual track with an L shaped superstructure. With a 90-degree angle, a 160.9 km per hour reversal in 6.7 seconds, this coaster gives riders a feeling of complete weightlessness.

In comparison, roller coaster riders on these five coasters are going faster than a drag racer, feeling more g force than an astronaut, and dropping from heights taller than the Statue of Liberty.
