(EMAILWIRE.COM, June 04, 2008 ) Detroit, MI - The death of a loved one is one of the most monumental events in a personÂ’s life. Every single person has experienced the loss of a loved one sometime in their life. It was never more real for Eric Tomei than on January 29, 2006, the day he lost his Dad.
EricÂ’s Dad passed away from an unexpected heart attack. No warnings, signs or symptoms. He sat on the bed and then fell face first into the wall. Attempts to revive him were futile. EricÂ’s family was in absolute disbelief. They waited four months for the autopsy report and when the report came back, they found out the shocking conclusion. This 6 foot tall, 170 lb. larger-than-life man had died of heart disease. In an attempt to constructively deal with EricÂ’s grief and anger, he started jotting down all the positive and constructive ways his Dad influenced his life. It started with a simple notepad and pen in May of 2006 and turned into the book, I Miss My DadÂ… This book is a lasting tribute to the man who shaped Eric into the man he is today.
Eric’s Dad always had such a strong commitment to community service. He instilled in Eric that true happiness is achieved through unconditional service to others. His Dad’s favorite charity was Habitat for Humanity. He donated both time and resources to this great charity over the years. 15% of every I Miss My Dad book sold will be donated to Habitat for Humanity. Eric’s goal is to raise $1 million in donations for Habitat for Humanity by Dec. 31, 2008. Additionally, his website, www.lostdadsclub.com serves as a resource where people can share their story as well as purchase a copy of the book should they so choose. “I cannot think of a better way to honor my Dad’s legacy than this,” said Tomei.
Tomei went on to say, “I am really an ordinary guy writing about an extraordinary individual in my Dad. I had three major purposes in writing this book. First, I want to encourage sons and daughters everywhere that is acceptable to express grief in whatever way you choose. I want this book to be a resource for them to lean on when times are tough. Second, I want to raise continued awareness for heart disease which is the #1 leading cause of death in the United States. Third, I want to raise $1 million for Habitat for Humanity through the sale of the book and donations.”
