In order to find things he can re-sell, Dan regularly visits places like libraries, thrift shops and moving and estate sales, purchasing items like movies, books, electronics, games and more. He then sells the things he buys over the internet for a profit. By purchasing his inventory from local sources, Dan said he has been able to help boost their support of community programs.
As Dan noted in an article that accompanies his fundraiser on Indiegogo, it is very rewarding to own a business that is designed to help people—even if in most cases he will never get to meet those he is assisting. Dan has been so inspired by his online business’ ability to support charities and communities, that he decided he wanted to share his passion with others. By creating his new website, Dan hopes to “essentially hand them a blueprint for the business, through how-to videos, and forums for questions and support.”
“What I do, can be done anywhere in the U.S.,” Dan wrote, adding that by offering this education via a website, he can give people who have not been able to find jobs the chance to start a successful business and at the same time help support their local libraries, thrift shops, and ultimately countless people in need.
