(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, May 27, 2014 ) Henderson, NV -- Brian K. Palmer, a multi-faceted moviemaker from Las Vegas, feels it’s time for a different approach to bullying. He is convinced that a feature film, not a documentary but a work of fiction, is the true answer.
“Despite increased media attention in recent years, society has implemented little change that effectively addresses the problem of bullying,” said Palmer, a writer, director, producer and occasional actor.
“That’s because the majority of the information out there is fact-based. That’s great, but it only goes so far. In order to effect real change, you have to do something that makes people feel the emotions. And that is much better done through narrative film.”
His anti-bully film, Sterling Silver, is the story of a boy who was bullied as a child. Years passed and his bullies changed, but one thing always remained the same – Sterling Silver was easy prey, and somebody always managed to oppress him.
Now an adult, Sterling’s bullies have vanished but he’s still intent on exacting revenge. “When people are oppressed, they eventually rebel, and that anger is not always directed at the right people or handled in the right way,” explained Palmer, who plays the lead character.
“In the film you’ll find out what happens to Sterling. It’s a story for the ages, an important story. When you walk out of the theater, you’ll probably take action to make sure the next generation turns out better than Sterling.”
Palmer has set a budget for the short film version of his anti-bully story of $3,000 for insurance, equipment costs (lights, cameras, lenses, etc.), transportation, permits, props, wardrobe and craft services. Most of the cast and crew are volunteering for this project and will not be paid. If the short film goal is substantially exceeded, Palmer will set his sights on shooting the feature.
In order to raise capital, Palmer has launched a Kickstarter campaign, which can be viewed at the Kickstarter site. Donations of any amount are welcome. Thus far, more than $2,300 has been raised.
For those contributing $30 or more, perks are available, such as digital downloads of the film, DVDs, T-shirts, Blu-Rays and mentions in the film.
