The page is for travellers and adventurers worldwide and aims to build a community to explore themes of responsible travel that conserve our ecology for nature and for people.
ECOdept is new small business offering travel related goods and is stamping out its territory by ‘treading lightly in our world', as its strap line announces. Their products are designed to limit the impact on the environment and resources, and the company is also committed to giving back by supporting charitable work to protect the ecology.
The new ECOdept Journeys Facebook page explores what is meant by ‘responsible travel' and provides a forum for people to share experiences and ideas for travelling and seeing the world in a way that minimizes the ‘footprint' that people leave.
ECOdept CEO Mark Hodierne described the page as "… an important place for travellers and adventurers to exchange details about their journeys and experiences of travelling. I want our Facebook page to be a source of inspiration for people about different ways that they can see and experience beautiful locations around the world. It's also important for us to promote our support for the Nature Conservancy – a charity that does such an important job of preserving our ecologically important lands and waters. And of course, it does help us to talk directly with our customers about products that are important for them when they travel."
Over the coming weeks, ECOdept will be encouraging its customers to participate on the new Facebook page by contributing travel photos and videos that highlight the ideals of eco or responsible tourism. Facebook is the first social media channel for ECOdept, but there are plans to launch Twitter, Google+ and YouTube channels shortly.
