PIHRA Indian Relay

(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, October 07, 2014 ) SHERIDAN, Wyo. – The Professional Indian Horse Racing Association is proud to announce that the 2015 All Nations Indian Relay Championships will be held September 11-13, 2015, at the Sheridan County Fairgrounds in Sheridan, Wyoming. Teams from Horse Nations across the northwestern plains intensely compete throughout the summer months to earn their place at the All Nations Indian Relay Championships. The top 30 PIHRA teams will vie for a cash purse and prizes as well as the coveted Champion’s Jackets and Buckles during this exhilarating bareback bonanza.

The All Nations Championships relay action will consist of daily heats on Friday and Saturday; the teams with the best scores will advance to the finals on Sunday. The 2015 event will also be a Native American cultural celebration showcasing authentic Indian art and crafts, dancing and drumming, educational activities plus an expanded horse venue.

The top 30 PIHRA teams will be chosen based on points earned during the season. The event will be open to teams without points only if PIHRA teams do not fill all top slots.

Indian Relay originated on the plains of North America over 400 years ago, when the horse was an integral part of Native Americans’ daily lives. The races are not only a demonstration of bravery, courage and amazing horsemanship but also an important connection to a historical and spiritual element of their culture. Today, riders compete not in the spirit of warfare but for “Native Pride” – it’s in their DNA!

The Professional Indian Horse Racing Association was founded to promote Indian Relay, horsemanship and safely. There were 17 founding teams the first year; now, membership has grown to more than 40 teams from across North America. The PIHRA vision is for relay to become a viable cultural and economic entity on the reservations. Not only is Indian Relay America’s oldest sport, it is the worlds’ newest extreme sport!
