When asked what influenced him to write and record the song and what was the story behind the song, KING Karlemagne responded, by telling us:
"'Kameroonian Gal' was originally written and recorded back in 2011 if I remember correctly -- at least the first version of it. It was initially a joke between my cousin Idriss and I that went too far, to be honest. Then when I found the beat and wrote to it, I just grew more and more curious to hear what I would sound like performing it."
"I'd written R&B songs before, but always as a gag, if you will. This was the first time that I'd written a melody driven song I thought I could pull off."
"The rest is history."
