"The more domestic abuse victims they are told something by their abusive partners, the more their subconscious mind believes it, and victims need to break free of this thought process," Donna says.
After having experienced her own journey through the healing from trauma process herself, Donna understands the importance of gratitude. While leaving her abusive husband may have been the first step for her, the hardest part was learning to love herself again. "Once I had regained self-confidence and self-respect, I started to attract people in to my life that appreciated and valued me for me, and through my own personal growth I was able to finally become emotionally free," says Donna. "The healing process truly began for me once I started to recognise the things in my life that left me feeling grateful. Rainbows Empowering Women began after Donna recognised a large gap in government support services for victims of domestic violence. She realised that women had little or no opportunities open to them once they had been processed and the chaos had stabilised. She wanted to focus on rectifying the gap, and took responsibility to provide a service to give guidance, support and confidence back to women and their children that were healing from trauma.
