Vibrant Essence Shares Countries On The WHO Zika Virus Epidemic And Travel Alert

(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, February 14, 2016 ) Racine, WI -- Vibrant Essence is a United States company devoted to creating innovative natural products, a producer of Natural Mosquito Repelling Incense Sticks. Today Vibrant Essence is providing an update about the Zika Virus.

The Zika virus is a mosquito born virus transmitted by the Aedes mosquito. Those infected with the Zika Virus, usually have malaise, headache, a mild fever, conjunctivitis, muscle and joint pain, and many have a skin rash. These symptoms usually last 2-7 days. The virus is present in the blood for several days to a week. These same mosquitos also transmit dengue fever, chikungunya, and yellow fever.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared an international health emergency as it did with Ebola. This means research and aid will be fast tracked to deal with this infection, says Dr. Allen Co-founder of Vibrant Essence. The speed of the virus is occurring rapidly. Four thousand cases of microcephaly have occurred since October in Brazil alone. The primary concern is the relationship between the Zika virus infection and microcephaly. This condition results in babies being born with underdeveloped brains.

Transmission is usually via mosquito bites and is of most concern to pregnant women or women trying to become pregnant. The Aedes mosquitos breed and are located near standing water, such as buckets, bowls, animal dishes, flower pots, old tires, and vases. They are attracted to people and will be found both indoors (under beds and closets) and outdoors. They bite during the day and evening.

Some people have expressed concern about the possibility of spreading the virus by breast feeding. From the research Vibrant Essence has done, there appears to be no evidence that the virus has been spread this way. A mother can rarely pass the virus to her newborn at time of birth. The real concern is the possibility of passing the virus to the fetus during pregnancy. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) however has reported that virus transmission can occur via sexual contact. As such "the use of condoms is advised during travel to the affected areas and for a week after returning, says Dr. Allen."

Women trying to get pregnant should discuss travel to the affected areas with their physicians and consider changing travel plans. If travel is necessary, take prudent steps to avoid mosquitos and mosquito bites. Pregnant women in any trimester should also consider postponing travel to areas where the Zika virus transmission is on going, due to the risk of microcephaly to the fetus.

Areas where the Zika Virus is currently a concern are:

American Samoa, Barbados, Bolivia, Brazil, Cape Verde, Columbia, Costa Rica, Curacao, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Martinique, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Puerto Rico, Saint Martin, Samoa, Suriname, Tonga, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Venezuela.

In addition to taking the usual steps for protection with sprays, creams and lotions, reduce mosquitos in favorite outdoor spaces with incense. Vibrant Essence makes DEET and Chemical-free Mosquito Repellent Incense Sticks; a unique blend of natural, plant-based essential oils.
