A chain of events led the author to Cyprus, here she met a new friend who insisted that she take up a woman's health check that was a free offer with her car insurance. She refused as she had only had her last mammogram less than a year before. Incredibly a lump in her breast was found and after sending for her mammograms from Scotland these revealed the lump had been there a year ago. So the Scottish medical profession had missed the lump. Alison believes that the 16th Karmapa, renowned for miracles was in some way protecting her through the energy from his handwriting and signature which she had near her at all times.
Tests revealed the worst, it was a grade 4 tumour, but this diagnosis posed the medical team a puzzling question. How did the author look and act so healthy with a year long grade 4 tumour? Medically she should be dead according to her surgeon. An immediate mastectomy was performed. However, because the tumour was attached to a muscle the author was not by any stretch of the imagination out of the woods. Her muscular and lymphatic systems were checked for cancer cells and the tumour re-tested. Saying the only Tibetan mantra she knew, she recited it daily as she stared at the signed Karmapa's Tour Programme.
When Alison contacted an old friend telling her of her cancer plight her friend immediately contacted an acquaintance - a Scottish oncologist - to ask for his help. This oncologist told her that he was having dinner in Paris with an eminent oncologist from Cyprus in 2 days time. Together these 2 top oncologists took on Alison's diagnosis and treatment plan. Interestingly, the Cyprus oncologist was the one her surgeon had chosen for her. A decision was now made to have the the tumour retested at Hammersmith hospital and the results proved to be grade 3 as well as negative test results for muscular and lymphatic cancer cells.
So having been told that she would not have very long to live, then given a reprieve, she bounced back and now realised it was time to go back to Scotland - back to Akong Rinpoche. Her sole purpose now was to ask the Rinpoche what she should do with His Holiness the 16th karmapa's signed Tour Programme, which she too now saw as an important magical spiritual amulet and the key to opening a new door to her incredible, wondrous journey. According to all medical evidence Alison should have been dead,instead she is extraordinarily well and has completed the book The Signature from Tibet, which she is now convinced that she was destined to write.
His Holiness the 16th Karmapa's signature became a daily inspiration, which in turn has brought about meetings with remarkable people around the world. It was during a remarkable meeting with His Holiness the 17th Karmapa in India that Alison was finally given the answer to her question of what to do with The Signature. She was entrusted with the task, her destiny, "Put the signature into a book for the world to see." Alison declared that, "The most intriguing, amazing and inexpiable events continue to happen to me and others who are involved with The Signature and the handwriting belonging to His Holiness the 16th Karmapa."
