While some meanings expand into the thought of mean looking, or even grotesque, the base of the word is always the same. If it's "monstrous", then it is really big! Therefore, when I write that a traveling musical team, called 24K Gold Music Shows, is a 'monster group', bear in mind that I'm referring to the fact that a team of over 135 people truly IS a 'monster of a show'!
What sets this music team apart even more, is that the performers and workers are all volunteers. True, the audience members constantly tell them they would win American Idol, but the fact is, these people are not seeking fame and fortune. Instead, they believe in what they are doing, and that is giving people, both young and old, an opportunity to hear and see songs performed that are generally about a half-century in age (since they were first made hits). The idea is to present the old songs but with the 'pizzazz' of today's special lighting and effects.
The era of the 1950s and 1960s was a huge boom in the new style of music referred to as rockabilly, or as rock and roll. It was truly a MONSTROUS success both back then, and still is to a great degree today, and especially among the over 55 crowd.
When you put a monster of a musical show team together to perform 'monster' hits... and they even do a little 'mash' (dancing) while performing, then you get the real genuine Monster Mash that the hit song years ago foretold. The team performed hundreds of live shows over a ten year period, but are currently not performing shows.
