Metabolism Advice Shared by Canadian Athletics Authority XP Labs

(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, January 15, 2017 ) North Bay, Ontario -- Created by the physical conditioning team at XP Labs, Fitness Pulse is a video portal designed to promote general public awareness of the most recent health research from around the globe. The website updates daily with free information sourced from university studies and published medical journals. Most recently, Fitness Pulse covered a literature review from Mysore, India, which explored the benefits of capsaicin and the consumption of peppers.

Capsaicin is an active component in peppers, which are all plants belonging to the genus Capsicum. It is, essentially, what makes chilies so spicy hot. The more capsaicin in a pepper, the hotter it is. Bell peppers, however, are unique in that they are the only member of the Capsicum family which does not contain any capsaicin. While normally capsaicin is considered to be an irritant, causing a burning sensation upon contact, a recent analysis of these delicious plants has shown that eating them can have a number of positive effects on the body.

Researchers in Mysore, India, have completed a literature review which provides enough data to confirm that capsaicin causes a release of serotonin, which reduces hunger and therefore has the ability to aid in weight-loss efforts. According to the review, consuming hot peppers also has a positive effect on metabolic syndrome, which is a dangerous group of simultaneously occurring poor health conditions that increases your risk of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. In addition to its weight management benefits, capsaicin shows some supportive qualities in managing inflammation, fatty liver disease, high blood pressure, atherosclerosis, heart enlargement, and diabetes. Capsaicin may also help reduce the risk of stroke and cancer, although more research is necessary.
