Keb Mo is a popular vocalist and guitarist who sometimes draws inspiration from songs sung by Robert Johnson although the majority of his songs has been penned by Mo him self. He is also well known as a versatile player with his guitar skills for playing the electric, acoustic and the slide guitar. He can play to both rock and jazz oriented bands which accounts for the large fan following he has gathered to to date. His songs are reminisce of the good old times country blue styles that is loved by his loyal fans. Mo melodies also have the contemporary touch of folklore story telling and soul singing. He is well known as an accomplished sideman and is also a highly skilled frontman.
A bit of Keb MoÂ’s History
From a tender age Mo has been widely exposed to gospel music which accounts for his great appreciation of the music. When he was 21, Keb Mo banded with a R & B music group and continued to play with them until he joined a musical tour of Papa John Creach. This tour was the triggering point in pushing Mo in to the celebrity limelight where he was instantly recognized as an artist of versatile talents. His first solo album was released in 1980 under the Casablanca label and was based on the R&B genre. In 1983 Mo was part of the Monk Higgins band where he continued to harness his passion for singing in the blues styles and music genre. Mo also tried his talents in a spot of acting when he portrayed a character of a Delta bluesman in Rabbit Foot, a local play. In 1994, he released a self titled album which included 11 songs accompanied with his guitar playing and banjo work. He has netted two Grammy awards and has enjoyed the height of stardom for many years with devoted fans following his progress avidly in all his gigs.
