Despite his infamous video, Adam James was never put in a storage closet. Instead, he was specifically told to not enter the closet by a football trainer – a directive he ignored.
Regent Larry Anders told Kent Hance to “not close this matter concerning Adam James” so the university could use it to fire Mike Leach.
University officials had talked about firing Mike Leach to avoid paying a bonus.
When the initial internal investigation showed no inappropriate actions against Adam James, Kent Hance twice asked the investigator to make the report more damaging to Mike Leach.
ESPN’s own ombudsman criticized the network’s treatment of Mike Leach as “more biased than balanced.”
Craig James repeatedly called Texas Tech coaches demanding more playing time for his son.

A survey of 354 Texas Tech students and alumni conducted September 2-3, 2011, the weekend of the Texas Tech/Texas State football game, found Mike Leach has certainly won the PR battle:
78% of Texas Tech students and alumni believe that Mike Leach should not have been fired.
67.5% believe that Chancellor Kent HanceÂ’s actions damaged the reputation of Texas Tech.
77% believe Craig James used his influence as an ESPN announcer to have Mike Leach fired.
82% have a favorable opinion of Mike Leach while 72% are unfavorable toward Craig James.
During his tenure, Mike Leach developed a football powerhouse known for its passionate fan base, high energy and never-say-die attitude. But the Texas Tech football program has stumbled since the firing.
