(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, January 11, 2012 ) Phuket, Thailand -- Tourists from all over Europe are this coming February set to swell the ranks of Limassol hotels as the popular tourist resort plays host to its annual carnival.
The event takes place across 10 days, from February 16th to February 26th, and the event has its roots in ancient pagan celebrations.
The Limassol Carnival kicks off with the famous King's Carnival parade, in which there is a procession of giant papier-mch statues of famous local and historic figures. Also on show are fancy dress competitions where local kids get to showcase their creative skills.
The balmy climate of Cyprus sees many tourists head into town during February to enjoy the fun of the carnival, and in addition to the processions and parades there are also plenty of eating and drinking-based attractions on offer.
The first five days of the Carnival sees 'Kreatini' take place, a festival of meat where locals prepare for lent by eating up as much meat as they possibly can.
Needless to say there are plenty of dishes on offer for visiting tourists to sample!
Lek Boonlert, marketing head of DirectRooms.com, says, Cyprus is one of those timeless destinations which sees visitors head there from all over Europe every spring to enjoy its great weather. This coming February there is the additional attraction of the carnival too, so the clever move on the tourists' part is to book accommodation well before arriving on the island."
