The week before, country’s Department of Tourism has adopted a new marketing campaign and a new slogan: “It’s more fun in the Philippines.” Everything didn’t go as smoothly as expected as it sparked significant debates online. A lot of voices both pro and con have been aired in social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook.
Some critics even posted their caricature of why things are a lot more fun in the Philippines. In spite of the criticisms the slogan faced, the Tourism Department said that it will continue with the new adopted marketing campaign to promote the country as one of the premier destinations in the world.
To show their support for the tourism campaign and current DOT slogan, the business owners on the island of Boracay embraced the said move commenting that the said campaign is well thought out and the slogan prompts excitement. One business owner even said that the said catchphrase is quite easy to relate to.
Filipinos are known for the warm hospitality they give to all guests. The islandÂ’s business owners saw the new catchphrase as a better one compared to the previous slogan adopted by the Department of Tourism, which got entangled in controversy and more intense debate.
The main point that the critics are pointing out is that the current slogan is very similar to what Switzerland used way back in the 1950s. Benito Bengzon, Department of Tourism spokesman and assistant secretary, explained that the similarity was just a coincidence and assured the public that it was not plagiarized from the Swiss campaign.
Somewhat siding with the DOT, business owners in Boracay see the new slogan and tourism campaign as something catchy and that it will work well with tourists of all ages. This is a big statement coming from the owners of business establishments in the hottest tourist destination in the country.
