The World's Greatest Salesman is K9, says Magazine

(EMAILWIRE.COM, February 06, 2012 ) The digital dog publication has published a report 'Dogs in Advertising' which makes the case that our canine pals are one of the most effective sales people on the planet.

In his book 'Clever Dog: Life Lessons From Man's Best Friend', K9 Magazine publisher Ryan O'Meara argued that the reason for the dog's success in selling comes from a variety of traits that we often find difficult to observe in human sales people.

"Paint. Cars. Toilet roll. Insurance. Food. The list could span virtually every consumer product or service. The dog is used more than any other animal in advertising. Why? Because us simple folk have an inbuilt switch that makes us feel trust, endearment, joy, integrity, fun, loyalty, honesty, adoration and all manner of other positive emotional connections when we see a Labrador ‘telling us’ to buy a certain brand of toilet paper as opposed to a slick sales pitch from one of our own kind. The connection between the advertising industry, harnessing thousands of years of canine domestication, to sell us things was no accident." says O'Meara.

The dog expert believes it is the dog's in-built trust factor that makes them so appealing to advertisers.

"Even people who have no particular affinity to dogs will be able to look in to canine eyes and not detect any hint of cynicism. This is why dogs are able to sell us things that humans sometimes struggle to make appealing. Toilet roll has become synonymous with Labrador puppies. Think about that for a second. Toilet rolls! That's a fairly difficult product to make appealing, but put a dog at the forefront of the ad campaign and hey presto, you've got a winning combination."

As the Volkswagen dog Super Bowl advert has already been viewed by more than 10m people online, it looks like man's best friend will continue to be a popular advertising spokesman for a long time to come.
