Coconut Oil Helps Boost Metabolism Says Natural Health Sherpa

(EMAILWIRE.COM, May 15, 2012 ) Wilmington, NC -- The fact that coconut oil is 90% saturated fat led some nutritionists to believe that it’s bad for human health. Only recently has it been discovered that 45% of the saturated fat from coconut oil is actually in the form of lauric acid. Lauric acid changes into monolaurin once inside the body. Monolaurin is the same compound found in breast milk that boosts the babies’ immune system.

Natural Health Sherpa reports several research studies that show the many benefits of coconut oil. One research study showed that virgin coconut oil is more effective in treating Candida albicans compared to anti-fungal drug fluconazole. Not only that but less coconut oil was needed.

“In simpler terms, the coconut oil worked better (in a smaller quantity) than the drug,” according to Natural Health Sherpa.
In another study reviewed by Natural Health Sherpa, “researchers performed a double-blind, placebo-controlled study of 26 people who had atopic dermatitis, a skin condition that often includes painfully dry skin that is highly susceptible to a nasty bacterium called Staphylococcus aureus.”

In the beginning of the study, 20 of the 26 participants were positive with Staphylococcus aureus. When the study ended, only 5% of the coconut oil subjects still had the bacterial infection while 50% of the virgin olive oil users still were infected.

Coconut oil appears to have beneficial effects in reducing waist lines in women, according to a study. Here’s another quote from Natural Health Sherpa:

“Researchers tested the effects of coconut oil on 40 women between the ages of 20 to 40, with clinical abdominal obesity (waist circumference of more than 88 cm). Half of the group received a daily dose of either soybean oil or coconut oil for 12 weeks. Both of the groups were instructed to follow a balanced, low-calorie diet and to walk for 50 minutes each day.

“At the end of the study period, those taking the coconut oil had a statistically greater loss of waist circumference that those taking the soybean oil. The coconut oil users also had a statistically higher level of HDL (good) cholesterol and a lower LDL/HDL ratio than the soybean oil group.”

Natural Health Sherpa encourages consumers to try using coconut oil in cooking. “So give coconut oil a try. Just be sure to choose organic, virgin coconut oil that is unrefined, unbleached, made without heat processing or chemicals, and is non-GMO,” this leading health websites concludes.

Unfortunately, there are many charlatans making bogus, unfounded claims in the natural health area, so our goal is to separate fact from fiction to pinpoint what actually works.
