(EMAILWIRE.COM, May 18, 2012 ) Wilmington, NC -- Acai berry has been touted as a super food. Natural Health Sherpa found out that acai berry does have some antioxidant benefits. However, compared to other juices and beverages in the market that contains antioxidants, acai berry is nowhere near the top of the list.
In a study published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, researchers looked into various antioxidant juices and beverages including acai berry, apple juice, red wine, iced tea drinks, pomegranate juice, black cherry juice, blueberry juice among others. Acai berry didn’t make it in the top 50 percent.
Natural Health Sherpa comments:
“Pomegranate juice, red wine, grape juice, and blueberry juice were all found to have higher antioxidant potency, better ability to block oxidation of LDL cholesterol, and had more overall polyphenol content.
“Acai fell in the lower half of the pack and was found comparable to cranberry juice and black cherry juice.”
The leading natural health website concludes that while acai berry does contain antioxidants, the amount is “not enough to warrant its superstar status.”
