(EMAILWIRE.COM, May 23, 2012 ) Englewood, Colorado -- This new ballet, “The Invisible City of Kitezh” is a classic story of love, romance, drama and sword fighting. The students of DBT, for whom this piece was choreographed, are very excited to be bringing a new David Taylor work to the stage of the Pace Center in Parker.
"My new ballet for Denver Ballet Theatre's Spring performance is unlike anything I've done before in that it's a throwback to the old romantic storyline ballets. Inspired by the ancient Russian pagan legend of 'The Invisible City of Kitezh', with music of lush orchestration and beautiful melodies by the Russian composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov."
"The story concerns a beautiful princess who saves her city from destruction by a fierce Tatar tribe. As the Tatar warriors are on the city's outskirts, her fervent prayers to God are answered as a golden fog envelopes the city and makes it invisible. In keeping with the style of the period, I felt a character dance section would fit very well within my readaptation of this story, and we have been so fortunate in having one of our other ballet faculty members, Anastasiya Buechele (Baranova), who has vast background and experience in this area, choreograph a character section for the students within the ballet."

The Spring Dance Concert will be a mix of ballet, character, jazz, tap, lyrical, hip hop, modern and contemporary pieces. It will also showcase the class work of the Russian Vaganova method of teaching classical ballet. The Vaganova method is taught at DBT by three faculty members, Anastasiya Buechele (Baranova), Slava Mesropov and David Taylor.
Denver Ballet Theatre Academy, based in Englewood, opened its doors in September 2011. The studio provides every aspiring young dancer with pre-professional, classical ballet training in a state-of-the-art facility. Combined with an exceptional, classical ballet program, DBT also provides students with a diverse dance curriculum including classes in Character, Modern, Jazz, Lyrical, Tap and Hip-Hop, for all ages and skill levels.
