Andrée’s vivid oil paintings bring scenes from the American West to life, capturing intimate moments through dramatic brush strokes and a skillful use of light and dark. It’s as though her subjects — a cowgirl resting on a stoop, a herd of bulls in the evening light, wild horses running through the brush — live and breath among us.
Andrée earned a BFA in illustration and visual communication from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore. Her talent for capturing the fine details of human musculature and the skeletal form led to a short career in medical illustration and drawing, and her work has been published in several publications. But she quickly realized that her passion was in painting, and she has pursued the life of a full-time artist ever since.
This will be Andrée’s fourth solo show at Waxlander in the four years she has been represented by the gallery. She also represented the gallery in the quick draw at this year’s Passport to the Arts. The quick draw event gave artists 90 minutes to create a work of art in full view of the public. These pieces were then auctioned off as soon as the paint was dry, with the proceeds going toward music education programs in the Santa Fe Public Schools.
Andrée’s one-woman show will run from July 17 to July 30, 2012. Join us on Friday, July 20 for the artist reception from 5 - 7 p.m. Visit Waxlander Gallery at http://www.waxlander.com/
