(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, May 24, 2012 ) SANTA FE, NM -- Suzanne Donazetti’s artistic technique is unique—so unique, in fact, that she is perhaps the only artist in the world who employs it. By weaving and painting copper in a labor-intensive process that she has perfected over the years, Donazetti is able to create astounding three-dimensional abstract landscapes. She will present her newest work in an upcoming exhibit entitled “Suzanne Donazetti One-Woman Show!” at Waxlander Gallery and Sculpture Garden.
Raised in Maryland and North Carolina, Donazetti moved to New Mexico in 1982, after working in the Biophysics Department at Johns Hopkins University. It was in New Mexico that Donazetti first learned to silversmith and began using chemical patinas to color her metal works of art. Dissatisfied with the colors of the patinas, she experimented extensively, eventually creating the process that she employs today: using transparent acrylics, mica powders, and pigments on 36-gauge copper.
“My vision,” says Donazetti, “is to communicate with color, through the refractive lens of weaving, brief moments of light in the natural environment. I seek to paint changing, complex pieces that will inspire an emotional response and a sense of meditation.” Donazetti’s unique vision has led to commissions by various hospitals and medical centers, where her art plays a powerful role in alleviating the stress of emergency personnel.
Donazetti currently lives in Columbia, Maryland, near her children and grandchildren. Her metal artwork hangs in institutions across the U.S., including Bradley International Airport in Connecticut and The New Mexico Emergency Management Center in Santa Fe.
