(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, May 31, 2012 ) Roseville, CA – From the Brontës to Nicci French, many of the world’s greatest writing teams have proven that keeping it in the family can often lead to great success. For one Roseville-based married couple, the same is certainly ringing true.
Rick Richardson and Sandra Dee are local authors and own Rich Books Inc., a publishing company seeking to help first-time authors kick-start their writing career.
Rick and Sandra are currently working on a series of fiction and nonfiction books, a project culminating in the release of their first novel – Southern Secrets: Sins of the past.
The story focuses on Rick Richardson himself, during his years as a young child with a passion to learn more about the last slave ship that came to his native America.
However, Rick’s passion quickly becomes an obsession upon learning of his ancestors place on that very vessel.
While the story is fictional, Southern Secrets is based on true facts and adventures of the past. Almost half a decade after the importation of slaves was outlawed; a mysterious group of southern gentlemen made an unforgettable bet which would eventually change their lives forever.
As with all slaves building their new lives on American soil, strength, unity and perseverance are crucial to their future.
Spellbound with African-American history, American History and African History, this first in a planned series of books is set to be a captivating and heart-warming tale for all who read it.
As Richardson explains, their foray into writing will hopefully provide an engaging journey into history for younger generations.
“We feel compelled to introduce more history into schools across the United States. We are choosing to do this by writing fiction and nonfiction stories about African-American history” he says.
To celebrate the launch of their first book, the couple is hosting a book signing event during Sacramento’s June Second Saturday event on June 9th of this year.
The event will take place at the city’s famous Kennedy Gallery Art Center, along with hundreds of friends and a myriad of Jazz singers; providing soulful hits to all who attend.
