Me and My Smell tells the wonderfully stinky story of one child who decides to officially retire from bathing. Taking readers on a whimsical journey through all of the fun of a shower-free life; how long will it be until someone says, what’s that smell?
As he becomes all too familiar with the repercussions of not washing – readers are invited to join in his day-to-day encounters and see how long the people, the animals and the world around can entertain the odor.
“My goal for this book is simple – to make people smile, laugh and have fun” says Howells, who is celebrating the launch of his first children’s book.
He continues, “I wanted to write a book which would appeal to both children and their parents; something to be read at bedtime to end the day on a humorous note.”
While Me and My Smell was written to entertain, Howells took the initiative to add an interactive and educational element.
Hidden numbers are buried within each illustration, challenging children to find them as the story progresses.
“It is important for children to become actively engaged within a story; not just listening and staring. Therefore, I felt it necessary to add an extra element of fun in the form of hidden numbers” Howells adds.
The book is receiving rave reviews from all corners of the United States. In fact, Howells is receiving feedback from parents whose children are becoming so engaged that they are playing out their own versions of the story.
“One parent wrote to tell me that their young child chased his Dad around the house with his foot, yelling ‘smell Mel Daddy, smell Mell!’ I think it just goes to show that, at the end of the day, children want to have fun” he explains.
Using the success of Me and My Smell as a pedestal for further endeavors, Howells has just announced that he has many more children’s books in the works.
