(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, July 19, 2012 ) Chicago, IL -- Cirque de Soleil will bring its Immortal World Tour, a tribute to the King of Pop, to the Staples Center in Los Angeles next month. The acrobatic group will stage two shows on August 14 and 15, bringing LA’s audiences one of the group’s most unique and unforgettable performances.
In the show, which began in October 2011, Cirque de Soleil uses the music of Michael Jackson and brings his vision to life using the group’s signature acrobatic performance. The show was expected to become a dazzling concert experience and has so far lived up to expectations. Now, the group is completing its American tour before it moves on to the European leg of the World Tour.
The one-of-a-kind production was ushered in by a partnership between the famed acrobatic group and the Estate of Michael Jackson. The show is similar in format to a rock concert and is unlike the group’s usual performances.
Additionally, the show is named similarly to a new Michael Jackson album that Sony will be releasing as part of its $250 million contract that allows them to publish the King of Pop’s music until 2017. The Staples Center was chosen as one of the venues for the show, which was originally slated only for 50 venues. The high ticket demand, however, has raised the number of shows to a total of 250 since it kicked off last year.
The Cirque de Soleil: The Immortal World Tour is just one of the bestselling offers coming from the stage of the Staples Center this year. The venue has just held a series of shows by the Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus. Before Cirque de Soleil comes to town, the venue will also hold the Freaks of Nature Tour: Kaskade, the UFC, and back to back concerts by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. It is also chosen as the venue for a concert by Enrique Iglesias and Jennifer Lopez, and for the WWE: Summerslam. In late August, the Los Angeles Sparks will start battling it out with their contenders in a series of games to be held at the famed venue. In neighboring Costa Mesa, another popular venue will hold several must-see events this year. The Pacific Amphitheatre will welcome the likes of Sheryl Crow, Earth Wind and Fire, All American Rejects, Martina McBride, Duran Duran, and Weird Al Yankovic to its stage this August.
