America Movil investing $249 Million to broaden Argentina's fiber-optic coverage Reports FibreOptics.Org

(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, July 27, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA - In order to broaden the cellular network in Argentina, Mexico’s America Movil is planning on investing up to $249 million in the remaining six months of the year by expanding with new cell sites and fiber-optic connections around the country.

Claro, a subsidiary of the Mexican telecom group America Movil, is the project leading group and has arrangements to raise the number of sites built in 2012 to 450.

The company issued a statement about their plans on Thursday, June 28, 2012, as reported by fibreoptics.org.

The beauty of the project would mean over 1,400 cell sites in the country which would be connected by fiber-optic cable, enabling faster communication speed and ultra reliability for years to come.

At the moment, Claro is at number four on the list of biggest cellular mobile companies in Argentina with nearly 20 million customers. It leads the race in comparison to Telecom Argentina SA, which had 18.2 million subscribers at the start of 2012 and Spain’s Telefonica SA at 16.7 million.

With their recent planning, not only will their cellular coverage become even stronger but also residential connections consisting of broadband internet access, will also largely benefit from the urban fiber-optic network.

Since 4G is presently the leading technology in the world of cellular communication, Claro was the first to launch it in Argentina and blew away the competition with download speeds of five megabits per second. Looking at the numbers, Claro is reported to be leading in that category as well with no such competition in comparison with speed.

With Argentina having one of the world’s largest population in terms of mobile-phone usage, companies are always looking to get ahead in order to attract the technology thirsty Argentineans.

Surprisingly, according to a survey taken in 2010, Argentina had 142 mobile phones for every 100 residents of the country, which just goes to show how large the market actually is compared to 90 for every 100 in the U.S.
