(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, August 08, 2012 ) New York, NY -- For almost 25 years, Al Martin has owned NYC comedy clubs. His first two clubs—New York Comedy Club and Broadway Comedy Club—have hosted many great comics who have also appeared on Comedy Central, MTV, The Tonight Show and Letterman.
Recently, Martin opened a third venue called Greenwich Village Comedy Club, which is located at 99 MacDougal St. in New York City. Martin’s other two comedy clubs NYC are on 24th St. between 2nd and 3rd Ave., and on West 53rd St.
Over the years, Martin has brought in many big-name comedians to his comedy clubs, including Chris Rock, Tracy Morgan, Brett Butler, David Spade, Pauly Shore, Rosie O’Donnell, and many others. Audience members enjoy watching both top headliners as well as comics who are still waiting for their big break.
Or, as Martin describes it, people can “see the stars of tomorrow today.”
As the owner of a virtually unprecedented three comedy clubs New York area Martin recently caught the eye of writer Jeffrey Gurian, who wrote about Martin’s plans to open the Greenwich Village Comedy Club.
“I have a feeling Al won’t stop until he has a room in every part of the city. The Soho Comedy Club, The Turtle Bay area Comedy Club...well actually he did have a club in Turtle Bay!” Gurian wrote in his article, adding that while owning one best comedy club NYC is hard enough, and two is incredible, for Martin to open a third is “off the charts.”
As Gurian noted, one of the things that Martin prides himself on is the variety of shows that he offers. For example, in late June “The Big Brown Comedy Show,” hosted by Aasif Manvi from The Daily Show, featured the increasingly popular Indian comedy. J.J. Walker also hosted a show in late June, and recently Vinny Parco from the television show Parco P.I. was there for his show “Naughty Girls.”
