Alcohol Drinkers in the U.S. consume on average four drinks every week reports SomersEliteTraining.com.au

(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, August 22, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA -- The drinking preferences of Americans have not swayed much over recent years, with the majority of them consuming around 4 drinks per week. However, research has continually shown that 35% of Americans prefer beer, which is followed by wine and liquor comes in to a close third with 22% of the vote.

These findings were revealed through Gallup’s Annual Consumption Preferences Poll. It is strange to note that 66% of the Americans polled claimed that they drink beer, wine or liquor but a third of those surveyed said that they have consumed no drinks at least a week before the survey. This implies that only 44% of the Average Americans can be declared as regular drinkers.

There were also a few of those Americans who drank more than average, and these were 12% of the total people surveyed. They drank 8 or more drinks per week. These figures are low compared to the 17% shown last year. But, if the figures before 2001 are observed, the rate was even higher.

Results have also shown gender-based information with men drinking more than women do. Men drink around 6.2 drinks per week, whereas women consume only 2.2 drinks. Men even declared that most of them believe they consume more alcohol than necessary at times. Racial differences were also detected, with white people consuming 4.5 drinks on average, and non-white people drinking at least 3.3 drinks on average. Younger adults were also prone to drinking more than senior people.

The choice of drink also differed where gender was concerned. Women seem to prefer wine and 52% stated that. On the other hand, men consumed large amounts of beer, with the rate being 55%. As Americans grew older, 55 and above to be more specific, their preferences in general steered towards wine rather than beer or liquor.

Moreover, Americans who drink in the Midwest were shown to be more attracted to beer and people in the East were more prone to consuming wine.

In conclusion, it can be stated that drinking seems to be very common. Along with this those surveyed showed a reluctance to admit that they indulged in overdrinking. However, 14% of those surveyed said that sometimes they drank too much. These trends were more noticeable in males and young people.
