After realizing decaying profits, media companies are venturing into education reports ReTextBook.co

(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, September 12, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA - Half a million students all over the country are studying their subjects of interest through more technologically inclined mediums such as videos, online downloads and e-books as well.

The Techbook is not supported by educational resources, but instead shows information from the Discovery Channel. This channel has also tried to increase its revenues through selling educational videos about biology and sciences to different schools.

The Association of American Publishers recently revealed that school books for children till 12th grade are a $3 billion business in the U.S. alone. Another additional total belongs to teacher guides and resources, the industry of which amounts to $4 billion. It is expected that printed textbooks will be replaced sooner or later by online or digital types.

David M. Zaslav, head of communications at Discovery Channel said: “Transmission of educational information is a steadily progressing industry and that forms our core business and of other informative channels as well. We are going to work for a successful business not a failing one.”

Many other companies have taken up the business of educating children, and inculcating them with positive values. Walt Disney is also one such company that have invested millions into not only making movies, but interactive games and books for children as well.

It was also revealed that usually books costs around $55 per child. Discovery takes advantage of this situation providing children with a cheaper alternative that costs around $38 and rises up to $55 for higher educational levels. This includes a subscription of almost six months.

Ever since the media has started using education as a tool for raking in additional revenue, their overall earnings have increased by 10%. Discovery’s Techbooks launch has also increased the revenues of the channel by more than 53% when compared to last year.

Education is a stable market that rarely if ever sees losses occurring, according to Mr. Zaslav.
